Tool Sharpening Workshop

On Saturday, Aug. 11, the Chesapeake Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, Md. is hosting a basic tool-sharpening workshop in the Boatshop. If taken care of properly, edge tools can last generations, making well-honed tools that cut like new every time. Participants will learn the proper preparation for sharpening and honing hand plane irons, chisels, gouges, and other carving tools. Bring your tools, sharpening stones, or nothing at all. Rowing-paddling regatta on the Menominee River and coastal Green Bay. The event is open to all boats powered by oar and paddle (emphasizing 4 man dorys and 6 man Pilot gigs). The event will begin Friday night with registration, evening row and a bonfire. Nameboard Basics Workshop

The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, Md., is offering a workshop to teach the basics of carving a nameboard from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, Aug. 18, with all participants taking home their individual carved pieces. Workshop participants will work under the direction of experienced carver and model maker Ed Theiler to learn the basic skills needed in carving a nameboard, with all necessary materials and carving tools provided by CBMM.
