Blacksmithing Workshop at CBMM
June 15 @ 10:00 AM - June 16 @ 2:30 PM$100
Join Med Chandler, owner of Ships Coy Forge, in this hands-on, introductory workshop focusing on forging hot iron by hammer and anvil at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum. Chandler has been forging iron since 2003 when he was working at a 1740s living museum in New Hampshire. He is both a sailor and a shipwright, who in 2010 opened Ships Coy Forge, which specializes in hand-forged tools for boatbuilders, timber framers, and other craftsmen. Participants have the opportunity to learn the basics of blacksmithing and bring home their own small hand forged projects. Chandler will demonstrate the basics of blacksmithing while guiding participants in the techniques to forge small projects such as nails, wall hooks, forks, and bottle openers. Materials and basic tools are included, and participants are encouraged to bring a lunch.
